What is SPRAVATO® (esketamine)?

Esketamine is made from a drug called ketamine, an anesthetic that has also been used for many years to treat depression. It is FDA approved, and is covered under some insurance plans for qualifying individuals. Esketamine has the potential to distort your perception, so clients must be observed for two hours after treatment in our comfortable location center. Clients cannot drive for 24 hours after treatment. Click here to learn more about SPRAVATO®.

 Who can take SPRAVATO® (esketamine)?

SPRAVATO® is a prescription medicine, used along with an antidepressant taken by mouth to treat:

• Adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD)

• Depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions

How does SPRAVATO® (esketamine) work?

Conventional antidepressants increase levels of naturally occurring chemicals such as serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. These chemicals are messengers that relay communication between brain cells. Having greater quantities of these neurotransmitters allows for better communication between brain cells and positively affects mood.

Esketamine may work in a similar fashion, but unlike other antidepressants it increases levels of glutamate, the most abundant chemical messenger in the brain. The result? A greater impact on more brain cells at one time, and often immediate long term relief from depression.

What are the benefits?

• Studies have shown up to 33% of people with depression don’t respond to multiple kinds of conventional antidepressants. SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is a treatment option that many have found to be the method that works.

• Esketamine treatment is a short term treatment. Treatment plans begin with two treatments per week for one month.

How much do SPRAVATO® (esketamine) treatments cost?

SPRAVATO® treatments are covered by many insurance plans for qualifying individuals, with out of pocket costs that could be as little as $0-10 per treatment. We are now accepting consultations for clients with all insurance plans. Saving programs are available for out of pocket costs, which your Spravato providers will help you sign up for.
